HALO SleepSack (Giveaway!)

CLOSED: Winner is Natalie M.

 Happy {1st} giveaway day!

One of the very first items I put on our baby registry were the ever so popular SleepSacks and swaddles. A product to help baby sleep longer...who would I be NOT to try it?

HALO was the brand that I kept consistently hearing good things about from friends, family, other mom's-to-be (not to mention, all over Pinterest!), and once I read about them and got a few of our own I knew it was for good reason...

Not only are they cute and high quality, but they are so warm and help make babies feel secure, warm, and snug. Chances are you've heard how important swaddling is, but if you haven't here's a quick run down...

Swaddling can help calm many fussy or crying babies and even help them sleep longer in the first few months of life. They are also great because they can prevent a newborn baby from scratching himself with his nails!

Here are some quick tips from HALO on safe sleep for your baby:
ALWAYS
  • Place baby to sleep on his or her back at nap time and at night time.
  • Room-share, but don’t bed share; the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend against bed sharing as it can lead to an increased risk for accidental suffocation.
  • Use a crib or bassinet that meets current safety standards with a firm mattress that fits snugly and is covered with only a tight-fitting crib sheet.
  • Remove all soft bedding and toys from your baby’s sleep area (this includes loose blankets, bumpers, pillows and positioners). The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests using a wearable blanket instead of loose blankets to keep your baby warm.
  • Offer a pacifier when putting baby to sleep. If breastfeeding, introduce pacifier after one month or after breastfeeding has been established.
  • Breastfeed, if possible, but when finished, put your baby back to sleep in his or her separate safe sleep area alongside your bed.
NEVER
  • Never put your baby to sleep on any soft surface (adult beds, sofas, chairs, water beds, quilts, sheep skins etc.)
  • Never dress your baby too warmly for sleep; keep room temperature 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Never allow anyone to smoke around your baby or take your baby into a room or car where someone has recently smoked.

If you want a heads up about HALO's newest product (maybe to add to your registry or Christmas list for baby?), they recently came out with the Bassinet Swivel Sleeper - which is the only bassinet that moves to bring baby to mom as it rotates a full 360 degrees!

I won't be doing a product review on it today since I haven't actually got to try it out yet, but be on the lookout after Camden comes for a full review! I'm so excited to try it out, here's what it looks like...

Looks awesome, right? OK, enough from me. Time for the giveaway deets...

HALO is kindly offering one of my readers a chance to win one of their 100% cotton or micro fleece SleepSacks! The winner can pick size and color preference. Giveaway will be open until Sunday evening, 11/30. Enter below and GOOD LUCK! :)

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Don't forget that I will have another giveaway (hint: gift card to an awesome women's clothing shop!) later this week!

Showing Thanks

Good morning friends!

How was everyone's weekend? Being that we only have a handful of weekends left before baby C arrives (only 6 weeks left in a couple days!), we took it pretty easy this weekend. It is SO nice to not have any plans sometimes, who's with me? I treated myself to a mani/pedi, saw Mockingjay (loved it!), and we actually already had our first Thanksgiving celebration with family last night! I made this Balsamic Brown Sugar Brussels Sprouts recipe, and they turned out great! I will warn you, though, if you haven't made them before they are pretty stinky. Delicious when you're eating them, but stinky.

Anyway...who else can't believe it's actually the week of Thanksgiving?! Next thing we know we'll blink and it'll be Christmas! I decided I'm going to take the majority of the week off from blogging, but I did want to give back in some way to my readers, you guys, this week! I am so appreciative and thankful for your support, comments, emails, etc. over the years so I have TWO giveaways lined up...one tomorrow and one later on in the week. One is fashion related (maternity AND non maternity wear!) and one is great for momma's or momma's-to-be, so make sure you check back and come enter!

I hope everyone gets a break from their normal routine this week and is able to soak up quality time with your loved ones. And that you get second and third helpings of all your favorite Thanksgiving dishes, of course! Give me all the stuffing and sweet potato casserole (my two favorites) that my stomach can handle... ;)

Current Makeup Bag // 2014 Beauty Gift Guide

Gift Guide: For The Beauty Guru

Lashes // Face (liquid) Face (powder) // Eyes // Lips, 1 (AWESOME!) Lips, 2 // Nails // Brows (a must try)

I've been kind of prepping my makeup bag these past few months for life with a baby. I keep hearing all about the importance of investing in good products (that you know get the job done!), and since makeup isn't something I normally splurge on, I've found some great go-to items recently that I know I'll be using often. I'm sure I won't have much time to spend on makeup, so I want the products I'm using to be effective.

Most of these products are ones that I tried sample sizes of first and that are consistently bestsellers at Sephora. Since they are known as a bestseller, this gives me a pretty good indication that they are awesome and popular for good reason! I figured I would combine my recent loves into my first gift guide for the season. I plan to do a few more gift guides in the next few weeks, but just not as many as I did last year. I hope they help with your holiday shopping lists!

+For Your Lashes: This Lights, Camera, Flashes Tarte Mascara I received a sample size of and instantly fell in love and knew I needed to buy the whole tube. I've never used a mascara that separates every single eyelash as well as this one, and it gives my lashes great volume. Honestly, I like it more than Benefit's "They're Real!" which says a lot because that one is pretty awesome too.

+For Your Face: Laura Mercier's Silk Creme Foundation is one that I've noticed a lot of celebrities using and raving about. It gives that perfect airbrush look, but since the price tag is a little higher I put off trying it. I wish I hadn't because it's awesome. I plan to only use it on the weekends or for special occasions to make the tube last longer! It's worth trying if you haven't yet. If you aren't a fan of liquid foundation, I'm going to preach to you about Tarte's Amazonian Clay Foundation for about the 5th time in the past few months. You will NOT regret trying this! Such an upgrade from Bare Minerals. (I use the medium beige)

+For Your Eyes: The go-to eye shadow that everyone was adding to their Christmas wishlists in previous years have always been the Naked palette's. Too Faced's Chocolate Bar is a fierce competitor and is the new hot one to try. It has 16 matte and shimmer shades and is even scented with real chocolate. Who hates that?

+For Your Brows: I was one of those girls who never really thought I needed to fill in my brows (just another product, right? wrong!) UNTIL my sister in law let me try Benefit's Gimme Brow gel. It is SO easy to use and really makes my brows stand out. I can't recommend it enough (I use the light/medium tube)

+For Your Lips: If you're not a big fan of the traditional lipsticks and want something that is a gloss, lipstick, and stain combined you'll LOVE Too Faced's Melted Lipstick. I, for one, can't stand lipsticks normally but this is the perfect combination and comes in the prettiest shades for the holidays! (love the Melted Berry shade) Another favorite is Dior's Addict Lip Glow, that enhances your natural lip color and protects at the same time. I love it because it goes on so silky, looks natural, and is great for everyday use!

+For Your Nails: The best time to have festive nails is during the holidays! Deborah Lippmann 'Ruby Red Slippers' shade is gorgeous, fun, and long lasting (mine chip all.the.time)

What's on your wishlist or in your makeup bag recently?

Week 33 Bumpdate

{tunic sweatshirt here..the best!}

The details:

*Camden is now the size of a...durian fruit! I have no idea what that even is...is that like a canteloupe? Hmm..not sure..
*I'm back to craving fruit (besides that darn durian that I've never seen) again! Cant.get.enough.
*Belly button has half popped. Seriously. Not a full outie yet...
*People have been asking me lately if I want him to come early or not, and the answer is no. I would, 100%, prefer him staying in there until our due date (or at least until the new year...a new years baby would be fun), but know that I have no say in this matter. I was born 5 weeks early and since Billy is a twin he was born very early as well, so my predictions lately are that he will come early. Billy is still thinking around our due date of Jan 8th!
*Pregnancy symptoms seem to come and go so much in a matter of days. After having that terrible acid reflux I complained about the other week, it was gone pretty quickly and that's when another symptom came in. This time last week, it was lots of pelvic pressure/a stretching feeling under my belly! And of course, a few days later it went away and now the acid reflux is back. It's a crazy cycle, but on the plus side it's nice that that none of them really seem to stay longer than a few days.

I did get a kick out of this, though...

*Rings are still on, no real swelling anywhere yet.
*No labor signs (except the normal Braxton Hicks here and there) and hoping it stays this way! I've been seeing my doctor every 2 weeks and measuring right on track, but he will check my cervix in 2-3 weeks (36 weeks) which will give us a better indication on when this boy's birthday might be!!

Other important things to note:

*Enjoying: Baby rolls all over my stomach and getting them on video (see below!), Rocky snuggles, that I'm still sleeping well (besides switching sides all the time), and that we're getting so close!
*Disliking: Honestly, nothing. I'm loving this stage where it's like I'm not focused on having to get things done, and I'm really starting to wonder when he will make his entrance into the world. Oh, and I'm not uncomfortable yet which is nice. I'm sure that's coming, but I'm starting to think I might just be one of those annoying girls who you want to smack in the face because they've enjoyed pretty much their entire pregnancy. Wait, I will say this, shaving my legs at this point is extremely comical and close to impossible.
*Random happenings:
+I wonder when people will start noticing how often I wear these Target tunic's (pictured above) because it's getting to the point where I want to wear it daily. At least I have it in two colors so I can somewhat fool people. ;)
+A labor playlist has been created! Any recommendations, ladies? Mine goes from soothing songs and jumps right into Usher or Lady GaGa, haha. Mainly because I don't know what mood I will be in when the time comes so I want to make sure I have ALL my bases covered...(now let's hope I actually use this playlist)
+If you missed it, I posted our nursery reveal on Monday! Thank you for all the kind comments on it, they really made me smile.
+In the beginning, I mentioned that I was craving meat at certain times and decided I would eat it when I craved it, but I never went into any detail about how often that is every week. Some weeks are different than others, but I would say I've been eating meat about 3 times per week. As of the past two weeks, I haven't ate it as much because I do plan to go back to being a vegetarian after Camden comes so I want to "prep" myself for it now and ease back into it.
+I've still continued to work out and run (again-more like a fast jog at this point), but am doing the elliptical more as I plan to quit running soon. I also decided that other than lifting some light weights here and there and going for some walks, I'm going to give myself December off so I can just relax, enjoy the last 4 weeks (or less), and soak up the holiday season. This plan could change, but for now it's what I'm thinking about doing!
*Looking forward to: As of Saturday, our car seat (and bases) will be installed in our cars! The hospital we're delivering at told us that our local fire stations will make sure car seats are installed correctly (and help you do it) by appointments, and we jumped at that chance. We didn't want to do it wrong (they are tricky suckers and hello, we're first timers) so this really helps! Besides that, I'm just trying to soak up as much time with Billy and Rocky as I can. Sleeping in on the weekends and naps, included.

Watching this will never get old...

 {oh look, it's that tunic again. I wasn't kidding}

Alright, I think that's it for this round.

It's absolutely insane to me that I only have, at most, 3 MORE OF THESE BUMP DATES TO GO!! I will say that I'm SO thankful I decided to crop my head out of these bump dates because let's be serious...otherwise these might have lasted a week or two. It was hard to keep these up as it is!

Almost there....almost there....

Camden's Nursery Reveal

Finally! The part where I show a few A LOT of pictures of our little boy's nursery after talking about this room for oh...the past 7-8 months. I know you all were just on pins and needles waiting for me to share, right? ;)

First things first...all sources are listed at the end. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me or leave it in the comments.

Secondly...my husband deserves a medal for all I'm concerned! This room used to be one of our guest rooms and the first task we, ahem he, did was add wainscoting to the walls. He had never done this before so he completely taught himself, and in addition to that he did all the painting. On top of that, he dealt with my little comments like, "you missed a spot" and "I changed my mind-we need to move this...change this...hang this" all. the. time. It couldn't have been easy to put up with, considering I change my mind on things pretty much weekly. So, thank you Billy for being such a good sport. I bet you are just as happy as I am (if not more) that it's done. :)

When we first started planning and imagining what we wanted in this space, we knew we wanted it to be more sophisticated and didn't scream "baby boy". We didn't want a particular theme per say, but instead just wanted to add touches of two of our favorite things: traveling and animals. We also knew that we wanted to be able to reuse a lot of the decor or furniture in other areas in our home later on, so we stuck with white furniture (gender neutral for future babies) and went with a side table and ottoman that can be used in other rooms in our house down the road.

Enough chatter from me...

*bumper is for decorative use, we know it should be removed when babe is in there.

*for the "love travels" print-I added small heart stickers for the places Billy and I have traveled to together.

I know it's cliche to say, but I literally sit in this room now and am so happy with how it turned out!! Since this is our first baby, I've obviously never decorated a room for a baby or had any experience even shopping for baby items, but I think we did a pretty damn good job for first timers. I had my doubts if I would like the color scheme (I LOVE now), if we would be able to fit everything in it (it's definitely not a large room, but we did it), and now I just smile and am so proud.

Is it the most perfect nursery in the world? Of course not, but it is perfect to us. It truly represents the love we have for our son, and even though it's just a space in our house, it means a lot more because me and Billy completed it together (while pregnant. while hormonal. I could keep going. you feel me?)

How'd we do?!

Five On Friday

Hey there! Welcome to the weekend {almost!}

Did anyone else get snow flurries yesterday?! There were definitely some flying around in the area over here, even though the day before it was 65. Typical Ohio for ya!

Linking up with the girls today for Five on Friday...

-ONE-

We normally put up our tree the day after Thanksgiving every year (and never earlier!), but after spending too much time in Target's holiday section and being sucked in, we decided we would put up our tree early this year. Meaning really early...like possibly this weekend...who's judging me right now?! Totally get it if you are. We just want to make sure it's up before our little boy makes his entrance into the world (I'm predicting he comes early...if I had my way he would stay in until our due date, but I was born 5 weeks early and Billy was born early as well...), and since we have a lot going on between now and then it makes the most sense.

Or at least that's what I'm telling myself...
also three words: salted caramel mocha (my fav)

-TWO-

This week Rocky met, and gave his stamp of approval, on the Rock n' Play! We even "swaddled" him to give him the full effect. ;) I don't think it's possible to love this dog any more than we already do... he's the biggest cuddle bug. And I realize I probably say this EVERY single time I post a picture of him, haha. But look at him!

-THREE-

Another nursery sneak peek! I have zero self control. I'm really trying to get it cleaned up (we just have a lot of gifts we are still trying to put away and such) so I can FINALLY share the whole thing. Little teases are annoying, I know. Baby chucks, though! I melt...

-FOUR-

After months of searching, I finally found Fre nonalcoholic wines at a grocery store by our house. Sure, it may not taste exactly the same but hey after this long I probably won't notice too much and it'll still make me excited. Little things friends...the little things. Who's tried it? Anyone?

-FIVE-

This week we set up a bunch of the gifts we received from our showers! This 4moms rockaroo was one of the gifts I really hoped we would get, and I can't believe in 8 weeks or less our little boy will be swinging in it! We also did our registry completion last night (you get 15% off any remaining items) at Babies R Us, so we officially have everything we need (for now). I'm sure later on I'll buy some more bottles and such, but we're good to go right now which is a great feeling.

Oh, and after we got home we realized that the employee who checked us out at Babies R Us gave us a huge discount on the 4moms Breeze (we decided to exchange ours for that one after Billy set up and took down like 5 different models in the store..seriously..) so we got $100 off the retail price, which made it about the same price as the other one we originally got! Such a steal!

This weekend we have ZERO plans and after traveling to Cleveland last weekend, I'm welcoming this type of relaxing weekend with open arms. Billy's in charge of date night for tomorrow night so we'll see what he has planned! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Next week I have an awesome giveaway with the baby brand, Halo, so stay tuned! xo

A Letter To My Son

My sweet Camden,

As I'm writing you this letter, you have been bouncing around in my tummy for 32 weeks growing every single day. We've already established a bond, us two, but I want you to know that as much as I am looking forward to the day we get to meet you, sometimes I feel like I'm far from ready to be a mama. Your daddy reassures me, always telling me I have a special gift (that he says I got from my Mom, your grandma who's now in Heaven) to love and care for people hard and make them feel comfortable and special. And I think he's right...I'm full of love to give and am willing to learn anything and everything there is to know about raising you, which I think is a great place to start. I want the best for you and will do anything it takes to give you a wonderful life.

No matter what happens in the future, please know that I am always trying my best. I promise to put your needs above mine, and will drop anything to be there for you when you need me. One day you will be out in this world, all by yourself (and hopefully married with a family one day too), but I want you to know I am always with you.

Whatever you choose to do in life, or whoever you become, know that I support you.

I challenge you to

Be compassionate...
Make someone's day better without expecting anything in return. Pay it forward. Be a good friend (scratch that - be a GREAT friend.) Care about others feelings and be kind. Show empathy. Help people when they are in need. Make people feel special.

Work hard for what you want...
Go the extra mile. Give it all you've got. Try your best. Never give up.

Live your life with adventure...
See the world. Take vacations (lots of them) and don't feel bad about them. Get out there and make memories. Find what makes you most happy.

Respect others...
Treat others how you would want to be treated. Stick to your values and beliefs. Be a gentleman. Hold open doors for women (even if your guy friends think it's not the "cool" thing to do.) Listen to your parents - they just want what's best for you.

Believe in yourself...
Know your worth. Be confident.

LAUGH, a lot. And cry, too.
Enjoy everyday you are blessed with. Know that after every hard day, there is a good day waiting for you around the corner. Focus on all the good in life and be a positive person to be around. Don't be afraid to cry or show emotion. Most importantly, be yourself.

And always remember to love and call your mom, she's knows best. ;)
(oh, and Dad is pretty awesome too. I hope you learn a lot from him.)

Love,
Your mom

Nordstrom Clearance Sale

I don't know how this could've happened, but I didn't pay any attention to Nordstrom's Sale going on right now until the very last day (which is today). Nordstrom has it all, and is one of my favorite stores. Actually, I do know how it could've happened (not being able to wear much these days, a nursery to decorate, thank you cards to write, the list goes on...), but I know that not all my readers are pregnant and therefore can scoop up these great deals!!

Today is the last day (40% off!) so if you've been contemplating new boots, a bag, or a warm coat for winter now is the time to buy. I'm just going to go ahead and put it out there that once Camden is born and I can fit into regular clothes again, the first thing I'm going to treat myself to is a new pair of jeans. The pair that I featured below has me missing regular jeans oh so bad!

{my favorite picks}

Untitled #63

Scarf // Sunglasses // Jeans // Bag (so cute) // Wallet // Cardigan (Remember I blogged about this last year? I wear it all the time!) // Boots // Pumps (perfect for the holidays!) // Open Cardigan

It appears someone is loving neutrals lately! Oh, and if you
you're in the market for a new coat this one would be my pick. It's gorgeous.

What item do you want to treat yourself to?

When Your Baby Showers and Nursery Are Complete...

...you feel like a million bucks.

Seriously. I feel so happy and thankful today. Monday has absolutely nothing on me! Nope, not today!

This weekend we had our last baby shower which was out of town, in Cleveland, with Billy's side of the family! It was held at a beautiful Italian restaurant called J.Bella's and we had our own private room in the back of the restaurant. Billy's mom, sister, aunt, and his brothers girlfriend (also named Katie!) hosted it and made the room look beautiful with all their decorations that they put up! The food was phenomenal and Billy's aunt made bags filled with sugar cookies and candy that everyone could take home with them, they were so cute. We played games, shared stories from when Billy was little (his mom also gave me his baby blanket to keep!), and it was just the perfect afternoon spent with loved ones. Since Billy had a diaper party with his family and friends in the evening (that his brother put together-thank you Kev!), we also came home with a good amount of diapers, which was pretty awesome.

I remember months back marking in my calendars the dates for all our baby showers and feeling like, at the time, that they were SO far away. It was a feeling of like "oh, when they are complete baby will almost be here!" and now...NOW...here we are. They have come and gone in what seems like a blink of an eye, but the good news is that we both feel ready and for the most part, prepared (how prepared can you be when becoming parents for the first time?!)

Both Billy and I are so grateful for all the thoughtful gifts and support we have received from our family and friends, and to those who hosted our showers for us and put in so much time and hard work into them. We couldn't be more thankful and now we just want Cam to meet all of his awesome family!

To make the weekend even better, Saturday night right after our shower was ending I got a call from Buy Buy Baby that our glider was ready to be picked up! Of course we had to make time on Sunday when we got home to go pick it up (no, I couldn't wait even a day!) because it was literally the LAST thing we needed to make his nursery complete! Once we got the chair in the room and we stood back in the doorway to see the room complete, I might have shed some ridiculous pregnant girl hormonal tears standing at the doorway with Billy looking in at it all. Sure, it's just a room in our house, but it's our first child's room that we put so much love and time into. It was a special moment for us, that's for sure!

We have just under 2 months left, depending on when our little boy decides to make his arrival into the world, and I finally feel like I can take a break and relax. Honestly, it's kind of hard to relax when you have a to-do list the size of Texas staring at you in the face! It's much easier said than done. But now, it's totally on. I foresee lots of chic flicks, slippers, and date nights with Billy in my future...

(you know, after I take those pics of the nursery for the reveal! #duh)

How was your weekend? Tell me something you did that made you happy!

Friday's Favorites

Not much I love more than wrapping up the week with things I'm loving lately and reading everyone else's favorite posts on Friday's!

Here's some things that I'm crazy about lately:

+Cozy Cardigans

Let's just talk about how I have very few things that fit me these days, and cardigans and I happen to be the best of friends. This cardigan is a favorite of mine recently - love the colors in it (and for those of you who like it but aren't pregnant-you can definitely still wear it!) I also picked up this one.

Get 20% off with code "20VETERANS"

 +Random flowers from Billy

How can they not make you smile?!

+Baby Outfits

If you're thinking WHAT ELSE IS NEW, Katie? You're right and I'm sorry for being so predictable lately, I can't help it. :)

I've had these for a while, but since it's closer to my due date I got really excited about seeing Camden in them and had to share! Buying baby clothes just doesn't get old (at least for this first pregnancy!). This outfit (from here) and this adorable sash (from here) couldn't be more perfect. They are just what I was looking for...seeing him in them when that time comes is going to be so surreal! Allie, the owner of Sew Worth It Designs who made me this sash, can do it all! Highly recommend checking out her adorable shop.

 moroccan pouf is from here

New favorite way to get my fruits and vegetables servings right here!

This multivitamin shake is great - you get 9 servings of fruits and vegetables and offers an alternative for those who don't like swallowing pills. Plus, it doesn't taste bad like some of the others can. I just fill one of my tall tervis tumblers with water and mix this in the cup with i, but you can also use it in your smoothies as well! You can take it on the go or drink it post workout.

+Per Steph's recommendation, I ordered this insulated bottle carrier and pacifier pouch from Vera Bradley. They were on MAJOR sale (got both for under $15 including shipping!) and they match my diaper bag perfectly...

This weekend we are off to Cleveland for my last baby shower and Billy's family and friends are throwing him a diaper party, so it's bound to be a great time I'd say! Thank you to those who entered the Embellished Living giveaway other day-I will contact and announce the winner early next week! I actually have another great giveaway coming up too, so be on the lookout! :)

What were your favorites this week? What did everyone think of Pump Rules?!

Happy weekend everyone!
