Baby K-BOY or GIRL?

Chances are you're familiar with old wives' tales regarding a baby's gender if you've been pregnant before, or have had pregnant friends. There are all kinds of them out there and all it takes is a simple Google search for you to be 100% convinced you know the sex of that belly in your baby. From the moment you get pregnant, all you think about is if the baby is healthy and if it's a boy or girl. This is how it is for me, at least.

Let's just say it didn't take long for me to realize that I truly believe all of these tales were created for the sole purpose to DRIVE PREGNANT WOMEN INSANE. Absolutely insane!

I got sucked in to all of these tales from the very beginning of my pregnancy (even if they are supposed to be just for fun...) I mean, who wouldn't want to try and figure out the sex of your baby way before your doctor tells you? After researching a little bit more on these and asking many friends, it turns out none of these can really be trusted. Sorry to shatter any dreams here....but it's true.

I've seen the Chinese calendar be wrong multiple times, the heartbeat of boys be higher than those of girls, and not all women get morning sickness when pregnant with girls! In fact, I've heard many get sick when pregnant with boys. But...but...but...how can that be? Aren't these things supposed to be accurate? Damn you, old wives. Nope, just to drive us all crazy until the time to actually find out comes.

I still wanted to take a look at how they match up with my pregnancy and share today since we find out Baby K's gender....TOMORROW!

{feel free to steal/pin this chart for you to use in the future!}

Results: Boy: 4, Girl: 5.

I mentioned it in the past, but practically everyone we know is still on team BOY. In fact, I think they even have me convinced. This entire pregnancy my gut feeling was girl, but the past few weeks I think I've officially switched sides! No matter the outcome, this baby will be the biggest blessing to our family and I can picture us with a mini athlete just like Billy, or a sassy mini Katie!

I've been getting some questions about how we are finding out early and if we are having a gender reveal party, so I wanted to touch of those real quick:

We're going to a place called Ultrasona tomorrow to find out early (I'll be 15 weeks Thursday, and will do a full review for you local gals after our experience.) They specialize in 2D, 3D, and 4D ultrasound services, and with our package they give you a DVD with live movement from the session and also a CD with all the images. This place comes highly recommended from many friends and I really liked the idea of finding out this way, just me and Billy together. I'm so happy and thankful we have this option. Of course, there is always a chance that the baby won't cooperate or that they might be wrong, but there's also a chance for those things to happen at any doctors office or at our normal appointment so it's worth it to us to find out. We are so excited and have been waiting for this day since May! Come on baby, let us see the goods! ;) If baby isn't cooperating, they have you back another day to try again.

Are we doing a gender reveal party?

I went back and forth about this for what seemed like the longest time. I think the gender reveal parties where the couple finds out at the same time as everyone else are cute, but just not for me (does this make me a bad blogger? ha!). Ultimately, we decided we wanted to find out just the two of us together first and then later on have a small get together to celebrate/surprise our parents and closest friends. Nothing big or fancy! Me and Billy are going to supply the cake and tell them that way! I'm really happy we decided to do it this way, and am looking forward to this special moment with just Billy by my side.

Time for you to weigh in...what team are you on? BOY or GIRL?

Eek! Here's to hoping I can get some sleep tonight...

  1. All of the old wives tales pointed to girl for me and we both know how that turned out! ;) It's so great you can find out this early. My doc has an option to find out at 14 weeks w/ an extra feww, but we opted to wait to 17 weeks. Boy that was tough!! I decided not to do a big gender reveal party too...too much work! We just had our parents and siblings over for dinner :) So much easier!

  2. So exciting Katie! I'm going to say girl. I'm not sure if that's because she would be the best dressed girl in all of the blog world or if it would mean that she would be BFF's with Stephanies girl! Regardless if it's a boy or girl though, he/she will be the absolute cutest!

  3. I'm going with team boy for you. I say this not due to anything on your chart but because a few days ago, I was thinking about you, and imagined you with a baby boy :) We did not do a gender reveal party because TJ did not want to, and also, it didn't really work for our timing. We'd have been kept in the dark OR trying to keep the secret from family/friends for almost 2 weeks. I hope your baby cooperates! We found out at 16 weeks and the night before the appointment, I had all these crazy dreams that baby was crossing his legs, turning away, etc. Fortunately none of that happened :) I drank a Sprite before we went in there though, to help boost activity ;) My friend drank orange juice.

  4. Did you use your lunar age or you actual age for the Chinese calendar? I ask because I did my actual age on the bump and it was wrong. I did some googling and found out that the calendar is based on lunar ages. After figuring our my lunar age {again, google}, it was right for me. I then did with with my mom for her pregnancy with me and my two siblings and they turned out right, too. Just a thought.

I was so sick with my son from 7 weeks until I delivered at 38.5 weeks. I found out right at 4 weeks that I was pregnant and instantly thought girl. That all changed about a week into the sickness. I sat down on the couch next to my husband after an episode and told him I was growing a frat boy. It was the week following Thanksgiving and the only thing the little dude let me hold down were leftovers, pizza, cereal and root beer. Not a whole lot changed over the course of the last 30 weeks, although I did add in pineapple, watermelon and slurpees. I really wanted cold a lot, too. At one point, I was begging my husband to find me an ice water slushy.

We went back and forth a lot deciding whether to find out and were still deciding the morning of my appointment. We finally, while walking into my doctor's office, agreed that if babe showed the goods without probing, we'd find out, if not, we'd wait. We did my appointment and then went across the hall to the ultrasound room {my doctor does ultrasounds at every appointment from 10-32 weeks in office}. The moment the wand thing touched my stomach, my doctor just about yelled "I need to know right now if you want to know". Little dude was spread eagle and showing his goods.

  5. I'm calling girl - chinese gender chart was right for me! And I LOVE that you guys are finding out first. We did it that way (and I revealed it to everyone at my baby shower) and I loved that the two of us knew first. I would've hated someone else knowing before me!

  6. I think girl!!! My friend just had a baby and EVERYONE thought it was going to be a boy- I was one of the only ones who thought it would be a girl- and it was!!! Congrats to you and Billy, this is so exciting and I can't wait to see what y'all are having!

  7. i agree those old wives don't know what they're talking about! Mine were pretty evenly divided down the center too. My baby's heart rate was on the higher side, and i had morning sickness... and i'm having a boy. we ended up doing the Harmony (blood) test so we were told it was 99.9% accurate and then it was confirmed at our 20 wk anatomy scan.

In terms of a gender reveal party, i think whatever way you decide to spread the news will be special. We did a facebook/text announcement since we didn't have a party and people will be happy for you no matter how you spread the news!

  8. All the signs pointed to girl for me.... and looky looky! Ha! I can't wait!! We told our family at a little get together, it was so fun to have everyone there and make sure to get it on film!

  11. I can't wait to hear about your appointment. I would love to do this in the near future, so it would be great to hear your thoughts/recommendations. I feel the same way about gender reveal parties. I love going to them, but the thought of us finding out the gender AT the party with everyone else, not sure if that is my thing. Maybe I'm too much of a control freak for that. So I think I would want to go the same route, but I guess we will see what happens when the time comes for us.

I am really excited for you and Billy and can't wait to find out what you are having. Part of me thinks girl, but what if you have a boy and he marries your blogging friend Steph's little girl?!? Of course it will be cute for both of you to have girls and they grow up being friends. Either way it will be awesome!

  12. boy boy boy!! Cannot wait :-) I like that you and Billy are finding out just you two! I agree, gender reveals are cute, but I like the idea of me and my future hub to find out together. Something I've always wanted to do was like, have the doctor write it in an envelope, and then we'd go out to dinner or something and open it together! Seems more special in a way! :-)

I forget what show, but some show i think on Bravo...maybe a real housewives? or maybe Kendra Wilkinson's show...apparantly if you hold a necklace with a heavy pendant/stone/something over your stomach...if it swings in a circular motion its a girl, if back and forth its a boy!! Who knows??? try it!! hahaha

love you girl! you guys are going to make the best parents...i mean that!

    can't wait to hear!
    xoxoxo

  14. So fun!! We are due a couple of days apart, I think...I'm January 6th with my second baby. We won't find out until 18 weeks, but this time around I feel like I'm much more relaxed on that...I guess because I already have a crazy little man keeping me on my toes already! :) Congratulations on your little blessing regardless of the gender!

  15. Ahhh we are in the SAME boat, we find out bright and early on Thursday morning! I will be 20 weeks exactly on Thursday so they should (hopefully) be able to tell for sure...it's been killing me to wait this long, but now that the appointment is almost here, I am so excited! And we aren't doing a party, Cam and I are just finding out together, we'll tell our families...and then we are doing a fun reveal on the blog on Friday :) And just like you, I've switched sides on my guess...I was for sure thinking boy based on all those old wives tales, but the past few weeks I've strongly been feeling like it's a girl...we shall see! :)

  21. How fun! i have heard all of those things too and not sure how accurate they are either, but they are sure fun! I also support not having a gender reveal, just be happy with your baby and let your fine people know in your own way :)

  23. I am team GIRL! I couldn't agree with you more on how you are finding out. That is exactly what David and I did and it was a very special moment. We then baked the color into a cake and surprised my parents which of course I got on film. My mom and dad's reaction has to be one of my most favorite moments from this whole pregnancy. So excited for you lady, either way the baby is gonna be so lucky to have you and Billy (and of course Rocky!) as his or her family!

  24. I was sick the whole nine months and it was a girl. Her heartbeat was also always very high and usually over 140. Either way, I can't wait to find out what it is. We did our gender reveal at a place similar to where you're going. :)
