Jillian Michaels Detox Drink

Happy Tuesday, lovebugs!

Back before I went to Nashville, I mentioned I was trying Jillian Michaels "lose up to 5 lbs in 7 days" drink detox that I saw all over Pinterest. You may not know this but I'm a huge huge huge fan of Jillian's. I've watched her for so many years on The Biggest Loser and I know that IF I could pick any trainer in the world to train with, it would most definitely be her (maybe with a side of Bob? Love him, too.) I would need/want her in my face screaming at me to KEEP.GOING. at all times. ;) Jillian's 30 Day Shred workout video has had a permanent position in our basement DVD holder for literally the past 2 years or so...big fan of that video as well.

Anyway-a lovely reader reminded me last night that I've yet to post my results and final thoughts about the detox (thank you!), so today I'm here to deliver the news...what it is, the pro's, and the con's, according to myself. With many detoxes-the results can be different with everyone, so please remember that when you read this.

WHAT IS IT?

+60 oz purified water
+2 tablespoons lemon juice
+1 tablespoon cranberry juice (try and find the lowest sugar/organic kind, I bought the above in the organic section at Kroger)
+1 dandelion root tea bag (also found in the organic tea section in Kroger)

--Make the tea as directed. Mix all other ingredients together in a plastic water container or pitcher. Let the tea cool to room temperature then add to the pitcher. I also squeezed the tea bag over the pitcher to produce more tea before discarding of the bag. Drink all 60 oz. of tea each day for 7 days!

You can prepare the drink either late at night or the morning of. Everyday, I made sure I drank half of the pitcher before lunch was over. That way I wouldn't be slamming myself with water the last half of the day. Still drink normal water during this as well. Tip: At first I used fresh lemon, but you can use the bottled lemon juice as well if you want to prepare the juice quicker.

THE PRO'S:
+Easy to follow
+You can still eat during this detox (but be healthy!)
+Lose water weight
+Cleanses your body and gets rid of toxins

My personal results: I lost 2 pounds on this detox and am happy with those results. Because I normally drink almost 60 oz. of water per day (+ tea every morning) anyways, my body was used to this consumption. For those of you who don't and might have more water weight to lose, you could have greater results. I noticed a change in my body during this detox because I felt slimmer and I started breaking out on my face and back of my neck. When you do a detox like this, that is completely normal because your body is trying to get rid of all those nasty toxins! Just be prepared that you might break out while on this detox. If you want to give your body a good cleanse or drop a few pounds, then this cleanse would be good for you to try.

THE CON'S:

+Short term (this is not something that will keep the weight off forever)
+Bitter taste

I actually didn't think the taste was bad at all. I'm used to drinking tea, so it didn't bother me. But I did list it because I think some of you might not like it. Don't let it stop you from trying it! Suck it up! It's really not that bad.

As you can see, not too many con's. If you're looking for a simple cleanse/detox to do-I recommend this one. If anything, it will cleanse your body and make you feel better. If you lose those 5 lbs in 7 days, that's just an added bonus!

*This link is actually a video of Jillian explaining the whole process, if you want more information.

Hope this helps!

Who will be trying this detox or have you already?!

And in the words of Jillian, "If you want that bikini body, you have to work for it! KEEP GOING!"

I swear I can hear her saying screaming this right now...

  4. This seems like a cleanse I could handle. I like tea and cranberry juice. I like that you can still eat during the cleanse. I too am a big fan of Jillian and her DVD has kicked my butt multiple times! xoxo, Lindsay

  5. I tried this about a month ago after seeing it on Pinterest. I do normally drnk about 1-2 gallons of water a day so this was managable for me. I figured why not. I did lose 3 pounds over the 7 days and kept it off. Overall think it is totally worth trying for anyone looking to detox and shed a few pounds!

  6. Ooo I'll have to check this out! She scares me, but she definitely motivates too!!

  7. I want to try this. I don't drink nearly enough water each day so this would be a great way to hold myself accountable. 60 oz seems like a lot!!

  8. I gave this a try but didn't really do it for weight purposes -- mainly just to feel lighter, leaner. I already drink a lot of water daily so I changed this slightly to make the mornings easier (when it's always a hectic race to get out of the door on time). I now brew the tea using hot water from my Keurig, let it steep, then add in a tablespoon of organic cranberry, juice from 1/2 of a lemon, and then ice. I drink it from one of those plastic cups with a lid/straw. I'm still getting in the same amount of tea, cranberry, and lemon, but it's so much quicker and I don't have to lug the 60oz to work. Then just straight water for the rest of the day.

  9. I often think of Jillian as I'm running... when I'm so tired and think of stopping - I can hear her screaming, are you gonna die?! No, keep going!

This detox seems easy enough. I am a tea drinker. So I definitely think I could to this! Thanks for posting/reviewing!

  11. I drink a lot of water, too, so I don't know how much good this would do for me. Sounds cool if you wanted to slim down for an event, except for those nasty pimples. I'm so crazy about my skin.

  15. Yikes-- I don't know if I'm brave enough to try drinking that!! I do drink a TON of water every day though, so maybe it wouldn't be as bad?! I am ashamed to admit that my 30 day shred DVD likely has ten layers of dust on it right now... I think I need her screaming at me again!

  16. SO happy you posted this! I've been on the hunt for a good detox that I'll actually be able to manage and I kept coming across this one. Although I'm semi-freaking out over the breakouts, I'm giving it a whirl this week. Wish me luccckkk! :D

  23. So I had to postpone my start by a few days because I couldn't find the tea. It wasn't at my local Kroger and I didn't feel like making a special trip...so I settled for a "detox" tea at Meijer that had dandelion root as one of the main ingredients. On day 1 now and am curious to see if the slight tea difference has an impact

  25. I was very excited to try this..let me start my feedback by saying..I live a VERY healthy lifestyle.. I eat very clean, minimal sugar in my diet (exception..glass of wine or a piece of dark chocolate here and there)..and eat mostly organic, as well as juice (only vegetables) a few times a week...I have also done full elimination diets and currently take probiotics and emzymes....and much to my surprise... I did it for a day and felt awful, horrible cramping and bloating...and other "unpleasantries." I stopped. Also for what it's worth..I drink pure cranberry juice...often and have lemon almost everyday with apple cider vinegar..so, not sure if I have some unknown intolerance to danedlion root?? or just the combination didn't work for me...thought I would let the community know...hope others have better luck.

  26. I just started today and finished the 60oz no problem. I actually don't mind the taste. However, I just had a shower and I am breaking out on my face like crazy! Is this normal? Can it be avoided? I am crazy about how my skin looks and am scared to go in public with all these little white heads on my face. Should I continue this detox or not?

    1. Were you not breaking out at all before you started? I did break out on this as well. It's because your body is getting rid of toxins and it goes to your skin first I believe so I do think it's relatively normal. If it gets really bad, I would probably stop, but I think a little bit of breaking out is normal since you are detoxing and such.

  27. I remember in like 2007 when I first read about this and tried it. I know it's supposed to be a 7 day thing, but I began drinking it all the time. Instead of a sports drink, I'd have a bottle of this on the eliptical with me. I'd drink homemade gatorade after to replinish electrolytes. It definitely had a physical effect, but it is also psychological for me. It symbolized the new healthier way of life I was trying to commit to. Unfortunately, I fell off that wagon after about a year, but am back on these days and in the past 7 months I've gone from 312 lbs to 240lbs. I also started weight training. I've only gone back to the tea in the past week, but it does make me feel slimmer and healthier.

  30. Thanks for the information. Detox is important, but you really should be careful. Losing weight fast needs to be done correctly, otherwise you'll put your health at risk. Decent coaching was an essential key in my success.

  31. Great post. For anyone looking to maximize the benefits of the detox process, it is important to allow your body to fast overnight to eliminate toxins. 12 full hours is needed so, depending on your schedule, try not to eat anything between 8pm and 8am. This allows your organs to focus on the work they need to do overnight rather than work to digest food. Then first thing in the morning, drink 20oz of room temp water to flush through the toxins your body has released overnight. Your organs will thank you!
Other great additions to a detox are exfoliating - our skin is our biggest organ! Getting 7-8 hours of sleep per night, and also releasing sweat. Some maybe some hot yoga or hot Pilates.

  34. have been trying to lose weight for almost a year since my son was born and have lost maybe 5 pounds in the last 10 months. That is less than a pound per month. JILLIAN MICHAELS (trainer from Biggest Loser) and I lost maybe a half a pound in 30 days. Nothing was working and I was getting quite discouraged. I did research and found the LADY SOMA DETOX and researched it and read TONS of reviews

I started the Lady Soma Detox on September 1st, and today is September 10th. I have lost 7 pounds. 7 POUNDS! My husband even remarked that I looked like I lost weight. I just about started to cry I was so happy.

  39. Just came across this... I had a major surgery throughout my entire abdomen in December and I was told I won't see much of a change as far as swelling goes until March. My stomach is still so swollen, I swear I'm dying :) wondering if it might help get rid of some of that lingering swelling/ water retention? Does anyone have any thoughts?

  40. I don't think I could finish the entire 60oz per day and I am crazy about my skin. Did everyone who did this break out? If so I think I will just start drinking a half of this per day and hopefully get results still since dandelion root tea and lemon are natural detoxifiers anyway I'm pretty sure. I'm starting to drink this today so we will see how it goes.

  45. i'm wondering why distilled and not filtered water? distilled water is what i put in my iron! help?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 2 years late I know but the distillation process gets rid of all the toxins in the water so if you're trying to detox yourself, adding unnecessary toxins into your body is just counter-intuitive! Drinking distilled water while not detoxing is bad though, because our bodies are naturally very acidic, so the alkaline in the spring water (distilling the water removes it) balances our Ph X

  46. Here's my daily ritual. I could mix my drink with a smoothie, but I like my smoothies more fruity, so I prefer to mix 2+ tablespoons of green drink into about a quart of water. I just drink it for about an hour every day after work.

  47. im in need of a good detox drink. i would love to try this but i have a couple question. do i drink the 60 oz of mix water through out the day or is there a certain way to intake the water? also when detoxing am i suppose to not eat anything for 2wks(that's how long im detoxing for DR. order) or do i eat like a salad for lunch or dinner?

    ReplyDelete
  48. My results and conclusion:
The detox water was good just taste lemony.
Frequent trips to the bathroom. I recommend finish drinking 2 hours before bed.
    I went from 115 to 113!! I lost 3 pounds!!
I admit I did have sweets and pizza and did not exercise till the 3rd day. Although it still works.
I recommend everyone trying this to eat 5 times a day, no sugars, little bread, and excerise for 3 days take a break and start 3 days again. I have lost an additional 3 pounds after the detox water just by doing this!! And gained muscle!! You can do it if you set the proper commitment. :)
