Sunshine State Bound

There are some of you that know what this Ohio winter, or Midwest in general, has been like (you have never heard me complain about the cold...not even once.) For those of you who don't know, please do me a favor and stay exactly where you are. Do not move a muscle. Do not travel north. Don't even think about it! Soak up as much sunshine and warmth that you have because there sure as heck isn't any here (OK, that's a lie-it has been sunny but it doesn't count because we can't do anything outside anyways.) Generally speaking, we've been pretty spoiled with our winters the past few years as I remember two years ago I didn't even see any snow, but this year...this year...it has come back with vengeance for us.

For the past few weeks, I'm pretty sure I've been cold 16 hours per day. When I'm not sleeping, I'm cold. When I'm working, my heater is on full blast. When I'm showering, the water is cranked as hot as it can go and I dream about staying in there for as long as possible (who's with me on this?). Try and imagine temperatures in the single and negative digits with high wind chills.....IT IS JUST NOT FUN, PEOPLE! You know it's bad when 15 degrees feels like a heat wave.

Poor Rocky can't even get a walk in without us having to pick him up on the way home because his paws are so cold. Lately it's been a struggle to even get out of the house after work to go to the gym, or do anything for that matter. That's just how cold it is and also why my life is pretty dull in the winter. I like to think I make up for this during our warmer months...you really learn to appreciate the weather so much more.

This is exactly why I would do crazy things to be able to sit on the beach, a drink in my hand, with no plans other than just soaking up the sunshine and spending the whole day outside. Crazy things.

Luckily I don't have to this time because from our good news that I shared Wednesday and the reasons listed above, that is EXACTLY what we're doing...

Moving to Florida. Kidding, but it doesn't sound half bad right now*

Going on a last minute vacation to Florida for a full week (Sarasota and possibly Naples for a day or two)

with Rocky in tow.

....and we leave tonight.

Dear Bucket List, I'm checking "Take a spontaneous trip" off of you! I have always wanted to pick up and go somewhere with hardly any planning. I imagine it'll look a little something like this...

drinks

pool days

and happiness (minus the sunburns from this old picture...)

My husband made me the happiest girl in America by suggesting and putting this amazing plan together within like three days. Just looking at the forecast and seeing the temps in the low 80's while we will be there (and not just 8...) makes me too happy for words. Even 70 degrees will probably feel like 110 to us at this point.

If any of you Florida gals have any recommendations for good restaurants/bars on the beach (because let's be honest-I don't plan to move much from the sand or the pool) in and around the Siesta Key area, I would love it if you sent them my way!

*I have a fun Etsy shop giveaway that I will post next week, but I really want to focus on enjoying our trip as much as possible without being attached to a computer so I won't be blogging much until we get back. If you're interested, you can keep up with our trip via instagram but please don't hate me for the excessive pictures...I finally get to thaw out, friends! This is one heck of a big deal (or we like to think so)  Also, don't forget to enter for a chance to win a Target $1,000 gift card!

**Billy's new job does give us the opportunity to relocate down the road (if we are interested) to say, somewhere farther south... ;) We will see! Happy friday, everyone!

How-To Save When Shopping At Target ($1,000 GIFT CARD!)

As if you need yet ANOTHER reason to love or to head to your closest Target store, I'm here to give you one.

I don't know many girls that hate Target...it's just one of those things. Today, you can actually make your unhealthy obsession sound like it's a good thing.

Allow me to explain. One of the best decisions I've made when it comes to shopping was getting a Target Red Card this past summer. The red card is different than your typical store credit card. It's actually a debit card that allows you to save 5% on every purchase. On top of that, it stores your receipts to make returns even easier and you get free shipping on all Target.com purchases (no minimum ladies). This was a no-brainer to me...SOLD.

I figured if I'm already spending on average $50+ each time I go to Target, I might as well get the debit card and save 5%. I can't tell you how much I have saved over the past 6+ months, but I can tell you that it's a lot of moolah and my husband is extremely happy about it.

target coupons cartwheel app

Here's the real kicker...Target has recently come out with their free Cartwheel App that allows you to save even more. Cartwheel can be used on your desktop, tablet, mobile web or iPhone and Droid apps and it CAN be combined with other store offers. The thing is, I think I've gotten pretty good at saving money at Target between this app AND my red card...

What I like to do is write out the things we need at the beginning of every week and then I will go straight to the Cartwheel App to see if there are any coupons for those items. Most of the time there is a coupon for what I need because the app has over 700 coupons available. Seriously.

target target coupons sales cartwheel app

You just log in via your facebook account or email then you have access to all of the coupons. 20% here...10% there..it all adds up!

I also like to use the app when I'm shopping in the store. My favorite thing about this app is that you can use your iPhone (or Droid) to scan any item's bar code to see if that item has a Cartwheel offer on it. How awesome is that?

Besides scanning the bar codes, if you are at home making a list, you can browse by category or search for a specific item, save the coupons you want (they are stored under "my Cartwheel"), then when you are checking out you just have the cashier scan your bar code and the savings come right off

None of this ripping paper coupons out and having to remember to bring them to the store stuff...

And did you know that one of our favorite bloggers THE Kelle Hampton has her own collection where you can shop her picks?

I'm always using this app when I shop at Target now. It's too easy not to, and when I see my receipt with multiple savings on it I can't help but smile and feel like I'm the smartest woman in the world. Go ahead, shatter my thoughts...this is just common sense.

The trick is (with coupons in general) is to just make sure you aren't buying random things you don't need because there is an coupon for it - that's where my list comes in handy. It keeps me focused on the things we actually do need. Or at least it tries to.

Have you used the Cartwheel App yet? If not, you better get on it!

A New Chapter Begins...

Where to begin...where to begin...

I guess I should first let you all know that I'm not with le baby (yet), if that's what you were wondering by this post title. ;) If you follow me on instagram, I kind of already spilled and you've probably already heard the good news, but there is no way I would miss dedicating a whole post to this.

As of yesterday my husband accepted a new job (picture me doing a giant happy dance here). Not just a new job, but a new career. For the past couple of months, he has worked towards it and made it his ultimate goal to get this position and HE DID IT. Let me just say, the waiting period was not easy for us. You are pretty much just sitting there waiting for the phone to ring with the news you want to hear, but at the same time it makes the end result so worth it. Worth every little second. The weeks that we waited and waited to hear that they picked him for the position suddenly feel like mere minutes...

It was in this moment that I realized his happiness and his success is better than my own. To see him reach a goal means I've reached a goal. It all goes full circle and that is one of the best things about marriage...supporting each others dreams and celebrating together when they happen.

And heck yes, we celebrated. All day yesterday, actually. tears. cards. a fancy dinner out. lots of dessert. and I mean LOTS of dessert. you get the idea. It was just one of the best days I've had in a long time. With new opportunities comes change and while that can be a scary thought, we are welcoming this change with open arms. My husband is one of the most goal oriented, hardworking, driven people I have ever met in my life, and it's one of my favorite things about him. I know he is going to thrive in this new job and I think I speak for the both of us when I say that we can't wait for this new chapter to begin!

Take that, 2014. We love you already.

Valentine's Day Gifts For Him: Little Luxuries

Valentine's Day Gifts For Him - Little Luxuries, valentines day, for him, gifts for men

Happy Monday friends!

Not going to lie when I say I've found some pretty good finds for men lately. This rarely happens! It might be because I finally got Billy to go to the mall with me recently and I just took a mental note of everything he was semi interested in (he actually has that plaid shirt above and it's so affordable).

One of the more unique, and practical, gift ideas I found was from the The Art of Shaving shop. Have any of you been in this store?! It's like guy shaving heaven...they have it all! I included two different shaving kit options above, depending on your budget, that you could spoil your man with for Valentine's Day. The first one is just the shaving cream (lavendar one for more sensitive skin here), but would be a great option to try to see if he likes it and then you could invest in the whole kit. I've been told that this $60 starter kit is one of their best sellers.

Trust me when I say these are great products and he will love you for it. But you can't go wrong with new slippers (they have more colors too!) or new fancy laptop case for work, either. See, men can be easy to shop for...

Someone please remind me that I said this when December rolls back around...

What are some of the best gifts you've given your man?

FIVE ON FRIDAY

All of the above are results from blowing up my Pinterest like there's no tomorrow lately. Cold weather...pretty things online...they just go together.

1// I'd like to take it here to admit that I am One Kings Lane addict. Good finds GALORE! I'm actually contemplating a bed purchase from there (like the one pictured here-swoon x30)...more on that later if it turns out. Aka over here crossing my fingers. PS: Click here to get $15 off your first purchase! (which means you can basically find something for free and no one hates free...)

2// Last night I took it to my instagram to express my current love and uses for coconut oil. SO many of you were intrigued by this so I wanted to point you in the direction of this fabulous article. This is the first article I read when I wanted to know all of it's uses and I find it really helpful. I may do a post in the future on how I'm personally using the coconut oil, but for now go read that article and get your learn on. :)

3// You can't hate this quote. Not possible.

4// Gold metallic nails...can it get any better? Making a mental note to possibly pick some up this weekend.

And some more randomness before the weekend starts:

5// These short Target boots are a new favorite. It's hard to tell in this picture, but the metal parts are actually a really pretty gold color...

And this striped shirt for spring is calling my name!

Last but not least (especially since I'm still sore and currently sitting right now), I've been doing this challenge for the past few days. It doesn't take much time, can be done from home, and hurts.so.good...

You know you want to try it...right? right?

What are your weekend plans?

We have a charity dinner event downtown that we usually go to every year with my parents which is tomorrow night, and the thought of wearing a dress in this cold is already giving me goosebumps just thinking about it. Besides that, my plan is to go out for a good brunch somewhere, stay warm, and count down the days until spring...

See you all next week, have a fabulous weekend! And if you live somewhere that is warm, do something fun for me outside, will you? (secretly crying in jealously)

Searching around for early Valentine's day gifts for yourself or your loved one? Here is my first gift guide set! I will have one more soon, maybe for the gents in your life!

Make Your Own Moscow Mule

moscow mule recipe copper mugs titos cocktail recipe

Enter the very first cocktails we made when we got our new bar area.

The ever so popular Moscow Mule!

It seems like these cocktails are all the rage lately and since we found a great deal on these awesome copper mugs, we figured why not give them a try at home. They were a nice change from my normal glass of Pinot Noir and are so refreshing!

Let's mix it up:

Pour vodka and lime juice into a mug.
Add ice cubes and ginger beer (we bought this type from World Market). Stir to combine.
Drop a mint sprig into the mug for garnish.

That simple, friends!

*Tip: Crush up your ice as much as you can. It's better when it's really crushed. Also, these can certainly be made without the copper mugs and in normal glasses, but they do totally give it an extra somethin' somethin', so if you can get them do it! We plan to use them for other cocktails as well.

Cheers!

I'm off to pretend I'm back in college again celebrating thirsty thursday's (seems like forever ago, ahh!) with one of these...who's with me?

World Market Josephine Desk

world market josephine desk white desk white modern desk

...is back in stock and on SALE!

It's my duty to alert you all about this. One of the top questions I get on here or via social media is where I got this office desk! Back in the day when we originally bought it, there was a similar style at Pottery Barn but with a much higher price tag, and then shortly after both were unavailable for a long time.

What I'm trying to say is...I would jump all over this deal while you can, if you are in the market for a new desk!

FIVE ON FRIDAY

{one}
I don't think I've mentioned it here before, but for the past couple of months I now work from home one day a week (which is seriously the best of both worlds) and on my day at home this past week, this is how Rocky was snuggled up next to me. I love getting to see what the little stinker is up to all day (which turns out to be nothing...sleep, sleep, and more sleep), but it's so cute because he always has to be next to me. If I'm at my desk, he's under it and whenever I move, he moves.

{two}
After a really long week, Billy surprised me with these gorgeous flowers. I will pick little surprises over big ones any day of the week...

 {my favorite Michael Kors bag in the world-from here}

{three}
Late last week I ordered this vest (you know about my obsession with them) and while I haven't got it yet, I had to give you all the heads up about it while it's still in stock! I'm in love with the faux fur collar, but it's also removable if that's not your kinda thing! I picture wearing this with a plaid shirt underneath.

 {four}
I've always been a sports fan and attending football and hockey games (among others) I truly enjoy, but when unlimited wine and food is involved you might as well just let me stay there all night long. I'll lock up behind me... ;)

 {five}
I'm pretty sure I have worn this Calm & Cozy Jacket from Lululemon at every opportunity I've had in the past 3 weeks. Literally...it's been on me far more than it has been off! The collar can be zipped all the way to be like a turtleneck, or can be folded down. It's fabulous.

And just because this might be my next DIY project (and yours?)...

Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

IN MY CART

beauty finds battery pack for iphone candles fashion

Guilty as charged.

At any given time on many different websites, you would find that I have a thing or two or three in my cart already. Things I've been wanting but just haven't taken the plunge yet, or things that I have my eye on for the future. All of these items fit that bill (literally...)

Kerastase Nutridefense Mask: I've heard nothing but amazing things about the Kerastase line and this hair treatment. They have a 20% off coupon now, too! (when you get on the website it will be offered in case any of you are interested in this line)

Drape Collar Jacket: This is one of those pieces that I would wear everyday whether it's running errands or dressing up at night. Looks so soft! (also comes in oatmeal and dark gray)

Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment: I swear by this stuff. I am almost out of mine, so naturally I have to restock.

Bauble Bar Necklace:  I'm a sucker for all statement necklaces, but this one I must make mine. I love the touches of blue mixed in.

GlamGlow Tingling & Exfoliating Mud Mask: I was sold at 10 minute anti-aging "facial in jar"...yes please.

Zella 'Live-In' Leggings: These are a repeat offender here on this blog, but they are that good so it's acceptable. Right? Another item I swear by and love!

Boostcase iPhone 5 Mint Case and Battery: This one actually falls more into the category of needing. Would be perfect for traveling or just when I need the extra battery life (I feel like my phone always dies around 3pm!) Also love this white option from Target, per usual.

Diptyque Scented Candle: Who can talk this candle's praises? I've seen it everywhere as one that is so popular, and I really want to try it!

Mon Amour 'My Love' Sweater: Can't get enough of the casual sweatshirts this year. Love the saying on this one, that is has stripes (of course), and is only $38.

Two things that actually did make it out of my cart and into my home, are:

I would recommend sizing down on this...I got an XS and it fits great! This top is so soft and you can never go wrong with plaid.

Estee Lauder's new perfume, Modern Muse! I can say without a doubt it's my new favorite scent for this year. It combines a blend of woods and rich florals. It actually won Allure's Best New Fragrance Award for 2013!

Happy shopping!

7 Days Of Juicing

Last week I completed 7 straight days of juicing. I had one juice per day, typically for breakfast or as an afternoon snack.

Ever since I got the third love of my life, this Breville juicer (another option here), I try to juice two to three times per week. It makes me feel amazing and gives me so much energy. But this time I wanted to challenge myself and do it for a longer, straight period of time so I figured it's now or never.

At the same time, I wanted to make sure this was something that I knew I could complete because who wants to set yourself up for failure in the first month of the new year? Not me! That's where the 7 days, 1 juice per day came in...I knew I could complete this and cross it off my list and as an added bonus find some yummy new recipes that I might not have tried before. Check, check.

juice recipes juicing juice detox
juice recipes juicing

If you are new to juicing, most of these recipes are good for beginner's and can help set you up if you are ever thinking about doing a major cleanse in the future (for example: 3 full days with no eating-just juices.) They are also a good mix of different ones so you can see what you like or the ones you can't stand.

For those that have instagram, you can follow me here to see all the juices there too and pull up the recipes quickly right before you juice. Otherwise, feel free to pin these so that you can pull it up at home whenever you need it!

Let's get into it...all of these juices make a full glass worth. Sometimes I like to put them in wine glasses or a mason jar just to make them look more fancy and appear that I'm drinking a margarita, but most of the time I use plastic cups because I can just throw them out after and not worry about an extra thing to clean up... #truth.

 juicing recipe juicing green juice

My favorite juice was probably Day 1, Day 3, or Day 6, but I liked them all. I had never juiced a sweet potato before, and was so surprised with how much I liked that juice.

Overall, I would say I normally juice more green juices than anything else and the vegetables I use the most are cucumbers (they produce so much juice and are inexpensive!), apples, celery, and beets. I almost always add a little bit of peeled lemon because it masks some of the vegetable taste. With the Breville juicers that I recommended above, you can throw in most of these vegetables and fruits whole. If they are really big, I will just cut them in half.

Last tip: always wash your fruits and veggies well before and clean your juicer right when you are finished!

Any other questions? Leave it in the comments below or email me. I hope a juice is in your near future!

Craft Beer Tasting Party 101

craft beer party beer tastings

Today on KC&CO: How to throw a craft beer tasting party with your friends. Thrilling life lessons that you never knew you wanted right here, right now...

The two things you absolutely need to make this party happen: loyal subjects (friends) and craft beers. If I had to add a third to this it would be food. I mean, who wants to come to a party that doesn't have at least some yummy food?

The Menu:

The name of the game? Finger foods. I thought of it randomly when trying to imagine what my ideal foods are when drinking beers (while keeping it semi simple and inexpensive), and decided to go with it. Beers and finger foods that are particularly greasy and/or fried....I mean, can you go wrong? Most certainly not.

-Bacon wrapped water chestnuts (recipe below)

-Tator tots (because who wouldn't want to eat tots while drinking?)

-Fried macaroni and cheese bites (speaks for themselves)

-Veggie plate (because we had to have at least one healthy item in there...)

-Orange slices (for some of the beers)

The Plan:

We told each couple to bring 6 different craft beers. Any type that they wanted. Before everyone arrived, I covered our kitchen table with kraft paper. We decided that we would use 8 of the beers to taste (you can do however many you want-but we thought tasting 18 different beers might be overkill, ha), so I took a sharpie and wrote out the numbers 1-8 on the paper.

Out of the 8 beers, I made sure to use some from each couple. The rest of the beers were just for everyone to casually drink as they pleased. Then, I had one of our friends who came to the party who isn't a big beer drinker write down the names of each of the 8 beers on a piece of paper. Then, she poured enough beer for each person in plastic cups for everyone to try. Next to the names on the paper that she wrote down, she wrote which beer went with what number (but none of us that were tasting knew). This way, we didn't know which beers we were tasting and we had an unbiased opinion on them. We used a sharpie to mark who "liked" or "disliked" above each number for each beer. Afterwards, we tried guessing which beers were what numbers before they were revealed to us.

And to take it a step farther....we decided that the couple that brought that beer that everyone liked the least, had to take a shot of Tito's. Because why not! However, it turned out that my husband decided that everyone should take a shot, so that's that.

Another idea is to cover the beer labels or put a brown paper bag around them when tasting them. It was fun not knowing what you were trying, and finding out which beers you do in fact like or don't like (dark beers = not for me).

The Outcome: A fun and great excuse to have a night in with friends and get to try some beers you might not have tried before!

 {this 21st Amendment Brew Free Or Die IPA is one of my favorites}

Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts:
-1 package center cut bacon
-2 cans water chesnuts
-1 cup ketchup
-1 cup brown sugar

Mix the ketchup and brown sugar well in a bowl. Set aside. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cut each piece of bacon in half. Wrap the bacon around the water chestnuts and secure with a toothpick. Line a baking sheet with foil then place a cooling rack on top. Place all the water chestnuts on the rack and bake for 20-30 minutes. Remove from the oven and take them off the rack and into a small glass casserole dish. Pour the ketchup and brown sugar sauce over top all of the water chestnuts and cook in the oven for additional 15-20 minutes. Enjoy!

Our Bar Area

Happy Friday!

1. Did this week seem extra long to anyone else? I am really looking forward to being able to relax this weekend. Life has been so busy. Aren't things supposed to slow down after the holidays? I guess not!

2. Hip hip hooray for finally sharing the pictures of our new buffet and bar area today. Let's just all pretend for a moment that we're together sharing some drinks, shall we?

Speaking of drinks, we are having a few friends over tomorrow night for a craft beer tasting party. I might even make my friends wear a blindfold when tasting beers to try and see if they can tell the difference between their regular favorite beers and the craft beers. The exact details for the tastings are still being determined (and what I mean by that is tonight me and Billy have some brainstorming to do...), but it's about to be fun I know that much.

Enough about me...here is our new bar area:

bar cart buffet world market buffet bar essentials

We just love it. However, I'm sure it will constantly be updated and changed around...that's just how it goes with these types of things, right? The buffet is this one from World Market, and we made the top of it more of a"bar" area to display different liquors, etc.

One of the first things we did after Billy put it together was paint the wall behind it gray (Silver Spoon by Behr). It was originally a dark brown color and we knew we didn't want to keep that, so we decided to paint it gray because this wall is right next to our kitchen which is painted the same color.

I started filling the shelves with our favorite bar items: a shaker, ice bucket with tongs, a gold serving tray, shot glasses, pitchers, a bottle opener (that is what the whale is!), our favorite beer, wine, and champagne glasses, and we also decided to store our new coffeemaker on one of the bottom shelves. One of the best parts about this buffet is how much storage it has. We were able to move so many items from our kitchen cabinets to it, which has created much more space for us in the kitchen.

My parents gifted us the "Krysh's Tavern Tasting" craft beer set and paddle, which I'm sure is about to get some use this weekend. I also decided to display some of my more favorite glasses on top. We still have some other things to get (like whiskey, gin, rum, etc.), but since we don't drink those that often we didn't rush to get them.

I think everyone needs an area like this in their house. It's just too fun.
