A Man Basket

It dawned on me yesterday that I forgot to share the "man basket" I made for Billy for our anniversary.

Men are so hard to shop for, but I've found that baskets filled with some of their favorite items tend to always be winners. I decided I wanted to make one for Billy to give to him with the golf club I bought him. What man wouldn't like that?

I'm not sure if you know (I never did until recently), but World Market has these awesome gift basket kits. Add these with their awesome selections of snack foods/drinks and I knew pretty quickly where I was going to buy all the goods for this basket. They are making my life simpler minute by minute! :) Another reason why this store is one of my favorites, and no they aren't paying me to say that.

Anyways, the gift basket kits are only $5.00, which I thought was a great price.

The idea sparked from buying this bottle of BBQ sauce that I've heard is supposed to be one of the best out there (I will be sure to give an update on this).

Billy is obsessed with trying different BBQ sauces, so at first I was going to do a whole basket full of different BBQ sauces, but then I got into World Market and found so many other things he's mentioned wanting to buy before, so I just started making a basket with some of his favorite food items....

 {all of these items can be purchased at World Market besides the Fat Bastard BBQ Sauce}
1. BBQ Sauces: Kansas City Cowtown and Fat Bastard Hawgwash
2. Red Wine Chianto Salami with Flatbread Crackers
3. Peanut Butter Filled Pretzels...who DOESN'T love these? Can we say ADDICTING?
4. Jalapeno Sandwich Spread-for his ham sandwiches that he has for lunch

My little helper of mine thought this spread of items looked super yummy...

and got a little sad when I told him we couldn't open them and try them for ourselves... ;)

I used the little name tag that came in the kit to write Billy's name on it and hang it from the side of the basket, and then just filled the basket with the items. Not rocket science or anything, but still really cute and fun.

Here's how it turned out:

Have you thought of making a "man basket" for that special guy in your life?
What did you put in it?

Keep this in mind for a small gift idea in the future!

It can work for birthdays, anniversaries, or even Christmas.

But let's not go there yet. I will not mention Christmas...I just won't do it.

  5. I did this for my dad's Xmas gift last year. I included flavored popcorn, a small bottle of bourbon, pretzel snacks, a gift card to a sporting good store, a shot glass, a fishing lure and some of his personal favorite junk food items that he likes to take camping with him (he loves beanie weenies and chic-o-sticks for some reason). It was a big hit!

  6. I did something similar for the hubs for valentines day. I bought him a new beer mug and then filled it with (airplane size) all his favorite liquors. He loved it and it wasnt something that would go to waste!

  11. On our first anniversary of dating I gave my now-husband a laundry basket full of condiments (the man enjoys his dips) - I still remember the check out guy looking at me nuts for having an entire shopping cart full of BBQ sauce and red hot (this was before the days of super couponing) - I felt the need to explain that it was for my boyfriend - a condiment basket - and this kid looked at me wide-eyed and said "you are like the best girlfriend ever." - Food goes a long way with the menfolk - last year I stuffed his stocking with hickory farm sausage and the year before: booze! :)

  15. Wow $5 is a great deal for the gift basket kit! Sometimes the basket can be so expensive it makes baskets hard but five bucks is a steal!!

  16. OMG! I love this and I'm SAD (wah!) that I didn't think of something like this for Rob's birthday or our anniversary. He's always so hard to buy for. I absolutely LOVE gift baskets-- in fact, I always give them for baby showers and what not, with practical gifts. And those pretzels.. I'm salivating. We love those around here and Rob will always sneak those into the cart when we go to Dollar General. World Market is pretty awesome too! Thanks for this idea! XOXO
