DIY {Wood 'Love' Sign}

Good morning everyone!

Anyone else love Mondays? Don't think I'm crazy, but I just love having a fresh new week ahead of me, and Mondays make me feel really organized. Obviously this isn't the case every Monday, but it is today, so I'm taking it and running with it.

I have a DIY to share with you today...remember the wood *LOVE* headboard I posted a picture of?

Yep, that one. We finished our version of it this weekend. :)

I decided I wanted to make it, but use it as art to hang over our bed instead since we already have a headboard. Our master bedroom comforter has branches and leaves on it, so it already has that outdoorsy/rustic look and would compliment it really well.

You will need:
-Wood boards {the more weathered the better}
-Screws and two 1x4 pieces of wood
-Chalk
-1 tube of acrylic paint in the color of your choice {$1.00}
-Small paintbrush

Here are the steps:

1. Get your wood: Since we just replaced some of our deck, we had extra wood boards from that just laying around.. perfect. I decided to use 4 boards because I liked the width the best for the area over our bed.

2. Have your hubby/bf cut the wood down to the length you prefer: The length I decided on was a little over 3 ft.

3. The next step is securing the wood boards together. Line up the boards first exactly how you want them to look on the wall.

4. Screw the 4 boards together: We used two 1x4's {pictured; easy to get from Home Depot or Lowe's} and Billy screwed them into place.

5. Now that the boards are screwed together, practice writing "love" or whatever word you want on the wood with chalk. Chalk was perfect to use because I could easily wipe off my mistakes with a wet paper towel.

6. Once I had the writing exactly like I wanted it to be, I simply painted over top of it. I used medium yellow acrylic paint. You can use a small paintbrush, but I just used one of those small foam paintbrushes -it worked just fine.

7. Once the paint is dry, don't forget to wipe off any chalk that you can see. I forgot to do this step before taking pictures. I was just too excited, I guess. We haven't hung ours yet, but once we do I will share more pictures. :)

Here is the final thing!

After taking this picture, I wiped off the chalk you can kinda see around the letters.

 This project is my favorite DIY so far. I'm so happy with how it turned out and can't wait to see it hung up!!

Weekend recap:

How was everyone's weekend? We stayed busy by working in the yard both Friday and Saturday. Our yard was a disaster zone - we spent hours trimming, weeding, mulching, and raking! It looks SO much better now and we're really glad to have it done. Saturday night I went out with some girlfriends for a bit...

Good times.

Billy took my Dad golfing yesterday for Fathers Day {love him for that}. While they were out golfing, I cleaned up the house and got all the food together for the cookout. I made a skinny girl taco dip, veggie plate, and these yummy Tomato, Basil, and Mozzarella Crustini's.

They were delish.

I bought my Dad a 1 hour golf lesson with a PGA golf pro for his gift. He is so hard to shop for {like most men}, but he loves golf so he really liked it. I also made a photo book from Shutterfly of pictures from our wedding, but it hasn't arrived yet so I told him he will be getting a belated gift, too. :)

How did you celebrate Fathers Day? Any really great ideas out there that I need to know about for next year?!

xo.

  8. LOVE IT! I think if we stained it a bit differently, and painted the word vino in burgundy it would be perfect for our dinningroom/livingroom/kitchen... although the wood boards also fit the bathroom theme... hm, i am seeing projects in my future!
