The Loss of A Mother {Meet Chelsea}

Today, you all get to hear from someone I'm so lucky to call a friend.
I will never forget receiving Chelsea's email to me a couple weeks ago...
telling me she just found out her Mom's cancer spread and she asked, "how do I say goodbye?" "how do I soak up these last days together?"
It takes a STRONG, independent, woman to say those very words. I've always known Chelsea was strong, but girlfriend keeps inspiring me day after day.

If you don't follow Chelsea's blog yet, you need to.
She will lift you higher and motivate you.

I'll let her show you what I mean...

**

Hi there, friends of Katie! I'm Chelsea and I blog over at Life is a Sunset!
My blog is about my life and, while I could sit here and list all the things you may read about, I have to tell you - life has been very unpredictable lately.
So, if you stop by {which I sure hope you do!}
you'll see my take on life -
the lessons I learn, the things that inspire me,
and the ways I hope to grow as a woman :)
Today, I'm writing about something very dear to my heart - my Mom.
It’s a bit on the serious side, but I hope you stick around.
I've just loved Katie ever since I found her blog but little did I know that two weeks ago, we were about to bond even more over something we both shared.
As many of you know, Katie lost her Mom when she was a teenager.
Two weeks ago, I suddenly lost my Mom as well.

You can read about the details on my blog but today, I wanted to write to you all about the loss of a mother.

Losing my mother was and is undoubtedly the hardest thing I've gone through.
We found out she had cancer on a Monday afternoon and early that Wednesday morning, she was gone.
My heart broke as I sat there with my mom in the hospital, watching her suffer, knowing there wasn't anything I could do and that those last moments I had with her would soon end.
To be honest, I can't believe she is gone.
I don't think it's going to truly hit me for a while.
It will be in the little moments - the moments that I need her most - that my soul will ache for her.
The times I just need to pick up the phone and cry to someone (I'd always call her)
or the moments in the future that I find out I'm engaged
or having a baby and want my mom to be the first to know.

Sure, she's still with me in spirit and she'll still "be here"
but, friends, it's just not the same.
Moms are irreplaceable.
They truly, truly are.
They nurture us, love us unconditionally, and teach us so much of what we know.
Then, one day, they are taken from us. That day is unknown. Perhaps that day has already come for you like it has for me and Katie.
If it hasn't, it will.
So, take every moment you can now to hug your Mom
like there's no tomorrow.
Take her out to lunch. The movies.
Thank her when she gives you motherly advice, even if you think you know better than she does. You don't.
Pay attention to the little things.
The way she laughs.
The scent of her perfume.
Her voicemail.
Just the way it feels to have her next to you.
Because one day, you're going to miss those things more than you could ever imagine.
 I know I sure do.

Thank you all so much for reading!
Stop by my blog and say “hi” some time – I’d love to get to know you :)

Also thank you, Katie for having me write about something so important to us; something that gives our lives more meaning. :)

Isn't she wonderful? Now go leave her some love, friends.
Chels, you are amazing.

Now, if you want to read something a little more happy...
Today I'm sharing what's "in my beach bag"
over at Jaclyn's blog!

Chhh chhh check it outttt.

  1. My heart is breaking for you Chelsea, and also for you Katie. I can't imagine loosing my mom. You are both amazing, strong, beautiful women who did and are making your moms proud. My own mom was diagnosed with breast cancer three weeks ago, and although it looks like she is going to be okay, it's still hard. So please know that both of you are in my prayers and in my thoughts. I'm so glad you've been able to connect with each other and share your stories with the rest of us. Love you both!

  2. My heart goes out to you Chelsea, as I know what you have both gone through! I lost my mom almost 6 years ago to cancer as well - I was 19! There isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss her like crazy & wish for her to still be here! My thoughts & prayers are with you as you embark on this difficult journey! It's sort of funny how God works though, today is my Mom's birthday & I blogged about her & our story today. I guess he just knows that we need to know that we're not alone! If either of you ever need anything or want to vent or talk, I'm just an e-mail away!

  12. This brought tears to my eyes. I feel so deeply for you girls. I don't want to think about the day I lose my mom. Although like Chelsea said it does come for all of us at some point.

  13. This post really hit home & brought some tears. I have also lost a parent - my dad. Its hurts so so so much when I think about the things I will never get to experience with him BUT I honestly believe that our parents are always with us.. which makes us lucky in a way. Not everyone has their mom or dad by their side for support 24/7. I'm sending you both lots & lots of hugs & love today!!!!

  19. Chelsea, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. However, your inspirational and uplifting spirit is so admirable!
Katie, I am so sorry about your loss as well. I lost my mother to lung cancer a couple months shy of my 12th birthday, and I miss her and need her more and more each day! So I know exactly how both of you feel, and just wanted to let you both know how comforting both of your high spirits are!

I just recently jumped on the blogging train and I would love for you both to follow me and give me any tips and tricks that you have! Looking forward to hearing from y'all and reading your future posts!
