To Move Or Not To Move...

Happy Monday friends! I guess I have some explaining to do...don't I?!

Let's start from the beginning. On my second to last day at work, Billy received a really great and unexpected job offer (with the same company he's at now) in...Nashville!

Holy crap, right? What crazy timing! We were floored, thankful, nervous, and excited all at the same time. Within 24 hours, with Billy's encouragement, my Dad and I flew to Nashville over Easter weekend to take a look at a few different suburbs. Because A. That's what good Dads do when you give them random requests like this and B. I wanted to see if I could picture our family living there. We have been to Nashville before (twice actually) and knew we really liked it and have heard so many good things about raising family there, but when we visited we pretty much stayed downtown and never with the mindset that we may live there. Anyway, so we drove around the entire city (literally) and looked at 5 or 6 different suburbs! It was such a crazy day, but I'm really glad we went.

Once I got back home, all we did for 3-4 days was weigh the pros and cons with the job and moving, and research all about Nashville. Honestly it was such a hard decision for us (one of the hardest) because we valued and appreciated the opportunity so much (Billy really deserved this-he works so hard!), but we couldn't ignore that we were also really nervous to leave our family and friends, and a city that we love. Even though it's not that far of a drive from Columbus (6 hours), a huge concern for us was not having family close by and to see our kids grow up.

In the end...we decided to turn down the job. I KNOW. Probably not what you were expecting to hear. We went back and forth so many times and each time we thought, this is it...our FINAL decision! But aside from being away from family and friends, the main reason we turned it down was due to the fact that Billy would be traveling a lot with this position and with young kids we just didn't feel like it was the best fit for us long-term. I can't tell you guys how much love and respect I have for him after this whole process. He is such a good Dad, husband, amazing at his job, and is always thinking about what is best for our family! We really do feel like we made the right choice, even though it was hard to pass up.

We had to trust our gut and go with our hearts on this one! I'm sure there are so many of you out there that can relate to hard decisions like this...right?! It's never easy.

Before I go I want to say thank you for putting up with my long period of silence here on the blog! Now you know what has been occupying my mind 100% of the time! Normal posts to resume tomorrow... :)

  1. I recently turned down a job offer from another company for 40% more money ... but it was also 40% travel. And with my little guy, I just didn't want to be away that often. So I 100% understand your decision.

  3. I am sure it was a hard decision, also given the fact you had just made a huge career decision yourself! You are both still young, and I bet he will have many more opportunities down the road.

  4. Being away from Family when your spouse is gone is hard enough when you don't have kids, so I can't imagine the added stress of having them. I'm glad you guys really thought it through and made the right decisions for you rather than just jumping in, because that could definitely be tempting :)

  5. That's so exciting that they wanted Billy for this new job but ultimately I love that y'all did what was best for your sweet little family. You can always go visit. :)

  6. That is such a hard decision. Having family close is priceless with kids especially when they are so young. I'm sure you made the right decision for your family. It is fun to explore the possibilities though!

  7. I am so glad you guys decided to stay!! I definitely think you guys made the right decision. Trust me from the experience we had last year! It is so hard being away from your support system (family/friends) with little ones! Especially when your husband travels for work. And being a little selfish here - now we can have more playdates!! :)

  9. So wise! Sometimes we can get blinded by a new opportunity and great perks and forget to assess how the opportunity fits our biggest priorities and our values. I know your family will have many great opportunities in the future that will be better suited for all!

  11. Having a husband who travels a lot for work, I would not be able to survive with 2 small kids if my family wasn't around the corner!

  12. So proud of you guys for making this brave decision! I know how hard it is having a husband who travels and having small children - and I even have the help! It really is tough and probably something we would reconsider if we had the choice... Thinking of you x
