2016 Goals

Does anyone else love setting goals in January? It's kind of therapeutic to me...it makes me feel more put together and gives me more direction! We typically have a few house project goals that we keep on our refrigerator from time to time, so I wanted to make a more personal list to add up there with them!

It's also important to set these goals now before our family expands in the summer and baby #2 is here because we all know there will be lots of change going on at that point.

Put Marriage First // With kids in the picture, it's much harder to get quality time with your spouse and sometimes your marriage can take a backseat. There were times this past year that I craved date nights with Billy and once we were able to get out of the house just the two of us, I felt so much more connected to him and back on track. I hope that we can do this at least once a month. Our trip to Mexico at the end of the month, just the two of us, will be a great starting point for this!

I also heard of a really great idea for the weekdays when you don't have a sitter. Spend one hour separately doing things that each person wants to do (whether being on phone or the computer, household tasks, etc.) and then the last hour/hour and a half spend as a couple together.

Back Up Pictures On External Hard Drive // Something I've been meaning to do for so long and I just keep putting it off...

Wake Up 15 Minutes Earlier // We've been really spoiled with how good a sleeper Camden is. We typically don't even wake up until 715-730 depending on the day and sometimes because of that I end up feeling rushed in the mornings. Getting up just 15-20 minutes earlier will really help that!

Exercise 3 Times Per Week // Having a treadmill and free weights in our basement has literally saved me the past couples months - it's so nice to just walk down there when Camden is napping and get some exercise in. I want to be able to keep it up during this pregnancy and hopefully in the spring, do my favorite spin class once per week.

Clean Out Basement // This has to be done yearly for us otherwise we accumulate too much stuff. We did it last fall before Camden arrived and it helped clear up so much space. I would like to do it again this spring/early summer before baby #2 arrives, especially because we are tossing around the idea of moving into a new house at some point this year.

Continue Saving // My husband is a big saver. We save the majority of my income every month. It's hard, but I definitely want to keep it up this year.

Make More Time For Myself // I think most moms can agree that sometimes our alone time means running to Target and other various errands to get things for the baby or house. This shouldn't count as time for ourselves! This year I want to make more of an effort to meet up with friends for dinner more and not let the focus be on my to-do list.

Create Memories with Camden and Write In Baby Book More  // I want to take full advantage of the days I get to spend with him, doing mommy & me activities and then fun outings/things on the weekend as a family. I also need to get better about writing notes to him in his journal, and in baby #2's baby book. Must. keep. that. up.

New Carpet Upstairs // This is a must and hopefully will happen soon...

Continue Blogging // Because I love you guys and this little space of mine! (at least 3 days per week)

  1. i am so with you on the making time for your husband. it is SO hard to do. Babies take up so much time, which I love with all my heart. But I need to remember Tony needs attention too. We need that alone time. Even if its 30 min drinking our coffee together while Luca naps. I love your suggestion!
I also totally agree that a trip to target for errands shouldn't be considered mommy time. Mommy time should be strictly for mommy, just like daddys have.
Mommy time is a huge goal of mine for the new year. Reading more. Being more creative in the kitchen. Chicken and veggies or a chicken salad isn't always exciting for Tony LOL

  3. Wonderful Goals!!

I love what you said about Putting Marriage first. My husband works weird and long hours at work and I usually only see him when he gets home for dinner, maybe an hour after that or two, and then he is off to bed because he gets up early. So on the weekends I like to spend as much time with him as possible. I think we will definitely make it a goal and priority to make more time for each other!
