5 Things You Never Knew...

one.
I will do anything to avoid wearing heels.
I'm a sandals, flip flops, tennis shoes, and boot wearing type of gal.
Do I buy cute heels and occasionally like to wear them for date nights?
Yes, as there is a certain time and place to show off those legs/feel sexy but if I can get away with not wearing them-I'll take that route anyday. They are so uncomfortable!

two.
My top three favorite movies are: You've Got Mail, Home Alone, and Wedding Crashers.
They have stayed the same for a long time now (I mean, the first two aren't considered new releases by any means) and I like that each of them are different, but each bring out a "happy piece" of me...like the comedy in Wedding Crashers (another random fact: I dislike Jim Carrey-his type of funny and my type of funny aren't one in the same. My husband finds this shocking and tells everyone, ha), the love story and "classic-ness" in You've Got Mail (Tom Hanks is one of my favorite actors), and the abundance of amazing one-liners/childhood favorite in Home Alone.

...oh, in relation to this, I'm also one of those people who enjoys paying for the overpriced popcorn at the movie theatre. It's all part of the experience!

three.
I have really bad allergies and used to get shots weekly for them.
The shots are to help your body grow out of the allergies (mine are mainly to environmental things except I am allergic to eggs which I never knew and still eat. oops) so that eventually you can stop taking them (where I'm at now), but for a few years in college and after college I had to get a shot weekly. Let me tell you, showing up at a doctor's office weekly was so not fun, but they were worth it. I would get so sick I would have these terribly long cough attacks where I would almost throw up from coughing so hard and they would happen every day. My allergies still bother me on occasion, but they aren't as bad and last year I think I was only sick once. (they are really bothering me this week, especially around this time of year-yesterday I woke up feeling awful and with a bloody nose!)

four.
My work drawer is typically really messy and is all kinds of random.
No fluffing this one. I have good intentions to keep it organized and clean, but most of the time it's just all over the place. Snacks and nail polish are typically the biggest culprits of said messiness....

 five.
When I'm feeling stressed or need to relax, I read my Mom's journals and spend time alone.
Growing up being an only child (did you know this?), I learned to love and appreciate time to just myself. I go crazy if I don't have it. As for the journals, if our house caught fire and I had time to run in and grab one thing (besides Billy and Rocky), it would be my Mom's journals. I would be devastated to lose them. They are so comforting and not only do they keep a piece of her here with me, they are a constant reminder of how much she loved me and the type of person she was. If I'm having a bad day, I will just go open one up.
(ps: if you're a mother-think about leaving journals to your kiddos!)

Erin tagged me in this back before we left for our vacation and I never got around to it, so here I am!
 This was fun.

In the comments below, tell me some things about you I may not know!

*Come link up tomorrow for Saw It. Pinned It. Did It! If you haven't done so yet, no excuses.
I'll be here sharing a new awesome DIY project (that is under $5!)

  1. I love how heels look. I can't stand how uncomfortable they are. So I too end up living in ballet flats, sandals, boots for 90% of the time!

  2. I'm with you on the heels thing. I love the way the look on... but give me boots, flats, or wedges before I ever walk out in heels. And the older I get the more I realize this!

  3. I love how heels look--on other people! Me, I can't walk more than 50 feet before they need to come off! Especially as a teacher who is on her feet all day, I LIVE in flats.

  4. i am right there with you about not wearing heels. why would I want my feet to hurt?! and i'm only 5'2" and my husband is a whole foot taller. oh well. love that you read your mom's journal, great way to think of and remember her.

  5. Girl, I am with you on the heels thing. The fact that I am going to have to wear them for Brian's barrister ball PAINS me so bad. Something about me?!? hmmm...my guilty pleasure when I'm sick is laying in bed watching old school Disney movies....yes, the animated ones. HA

  6. The journal idea is so precious. And I completely agree about Jim Carrey - not funny at all. Have a great day!

  7. I used to get allergy shots when I was in elementary school. I have mainly environmental allergies. Grass and trees are major culprits. So, playing outside as kid would result in puffy/watery eyes, itching and a runny nose. Not a fun childhood! The shots helped but the past 2 years my allergies have been awful. Not kidding, 5 minutes ago I emailed my bff and said I need to see an allergist. I'm miserable. I can't wear my contacts at all.

  8. This is so cute. Our mutual love for Home Alone & Tom Hanks is precisely why we're friends.

  9. I'm the same way about heels! I also love those three movies! I think the idea of those journals is so nice. Such a blessing that your mom did that for you!

  10. I feel the same way about heels but I NEVER wear them. I also love Wedding Crashers. I could watch just about any Vince Vaughn movie over and over.

  11. Thanks for sharing! I'm glad I'm not the only lady out there who isn't a huge heels fan, I just don't find them easy to walk in or very comfortable. And love, love, love Home Alone!! So funny, I could watch it over and over again, and I do!

  12. Oh my gosh, I hate heels, too!!! Nothing is worth that much pain, but it makes finding a comfortable pair all the better!

  13. A-freakin-MEN on the heels!! I'm guilty of buying them if they're super cute and a good deal but do they get worn? hahaha hardly ever. Definitely a Sperrys, flip flops, Nike kinda girl :)

  14. Oh man with the allergies. My environmental allergies have gotten even worse since moving to Ohio after college, especially ragweed in the Aug-Sept time frame. I take meds, but am very eeehhhh about getting shots. Partly because of the going to the doctor every week thing, and partly because my mom and best friend had horrible experiences with shots - with my bff ending up in the hospital!

But I do end up absolutely miserable for a few weeks every year, and usually give myself a sinus infection. Ugh to Ohio and it's crazy pollens.

  15. I am so glad to know I am not the only adult (do I even want to consider myself this?) that enjoys Clif Kid Z-Bars! The chocolate brownie one is delicious.

Also...cannot agree more about the heels! If it's more than two inches, it's not going on my feet. :)

  16. Omg I hate Jim Carrey too! Everyone I tell this to thinks I'm a weirdo but I don't think he's funny. Glad to know I'm not alone.

  17. So glad to know I'm not alone. I LOVE the look of a heel, but I HATE wearing them. They ARE so uncomfortable. I live in sandals, which is why I guess I thrive on warmer weather, where I can sport them babies! :) LOL.

And I too dislike Jim Carrey. I don't get him, like at all.

  18. Love this post! I like wearing heels, but mostly I am comfortable in other shoes too. I'm good with wedges though because they are almost the best of both worlds :)

  19. I know what you mean about allergies. I just started going 2 months, ago and have to go weekly. I'm so glad to hear that for you it was worth it. I hope the same for me!

  20. Love this idea! I'm totally the same way with heels! I used to love wearing them, now I try to find a way to NOT wear them at all times! HAHA

  21. I am totally with you on not wearing heels. I am only 5'3 and would always suck it up and wear heels out in college. Now I finally just embrace the fact that I am much more fun to be around when my feet aren't killing me and wear cute flats when I go out.

  22. Dont forget #6, you're a sucker for getting your back scratched!

  23. That was fun! I'm so with you on the heels thing. I don't think my feet were made for heels. Let's be honest, I still wear them sometimes, but they're murder!! The things we girls do. ;)

My three fave movies are Stepbrothers, Bridesmaids and Footloose (the original). Haha!

I deal with allergies too. They're no bueno. I think I'm most allergic to dust though...like house dust. I think it's the universe's way of telling me that I need a maid.

My work drawer definitely consists of snacks, lip balm, snacks, hand lotion, snacks, colorful markers...and snacks.

Have you ever thought about buying a fireproof safe for your mom's journals? I think that's such an amazing gift that she left for you. Definitely never want anything to ever happen to them.

  24. I love that about your mom's journal. You may have already done this, but why don't you scan in all of the pages and keep an online back-up?

Hmm, something you may not know about me -- I can't drink whiskey. It gives me the shivers all up and down my body. Ugh.

  25. I love this post! I actually love wearing heels and I'm 5'10"! Growing up I was always self conscious about being so tall and having to wear heels, but now I'm proud to embrace the height so I wear them anyways :)

  26. I'm def a boots/flats girl too. I just can't handle heels, I seriously am not good at walking in them!! Lol, probably because I never practice!! I'm currently on the hunt for some nude heels for an upcoming wedding I'm in.... and I already have visions of myself tripping down the aisle!

  27. I too am not a Jim Carrey fan, I just don't find him funny, so you're not alone on that one!

  29. I am so with you on the heels. I have like 30 pairs but almost never wear them. I am on the run too much!

Something you may not know about me - I have completed 7 triathlons. I then got hit by a car while riding my bike, after going back to quickly after recovering I took a break. But I miss it terribly at times.

  30. Ugh Jim Carrey drives me BONKERS. I do not like him either.

I used to get allergy shots too...you are right, not fun at all.

LOVE those clif bars (especially the kids ones but the chocolate mint 'adult' ones are also delicious)...those are a staple in our house too.

  35. I'm an only child too and have had to explain to many people why I need to be by myself at times! I'm also an introvert who is a teacher, which means not a lot of time during the day by myself! I have a few hours w/the dog before my husband gets home and those hours are GOLDEN.

I love the fact your mom left you journals. I'm pregnant right now and think you just inspired me to start writing one for my future kid.

  36. I'm with Billy when it comes to adding to the list! #7 would be that you are the best friend everrr! Or that you are also a sucker for open mouthed kisses from a special boy named Rocky. Lol. love ya lady!

  37. I love to hate heels. There are so many cute ones in the world and buying new heels makes me SO HAPPY. But then they make my feet SO SAD which, in return, makes me so sad. It's a vicious cycle.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I pretty much live in sandals and flats too. The clif kid bars are the perfect on the go snacks. I aways have atleast 2 snack bars with me!

  39. I am SO with you on the heels & Home Alone!
I am sure Houston did not help your allergies... it's awful right now!

  42. i love posts where i get to know you better! you're so lucky to have something to read and re-read of your mothers

  43. I'm totally with you on #1. Any girl that claims heels are comfortable is lying. They SO are not.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I am about a year into getting allergy shots, and yes being at the doctor all the time is not fun, but I feel better than I ever have. I agree totally worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh man, I HATE heels! I wear them to work sometimes, but I cannot stand it!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I am so with you on the heels!! I have a million more tennis shoes and flip flops than anything else. I can wear flip flops in the rain...not sure about snow, dont get that here LOL
Heels are so damn uncomfortable!!! and they just keep getting higher and higher.... :/

  47. I'm right there with you on the allergies (the worst) and heels. eww.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I also love Tom Hanks!! I like to pretend I like heels (because I do like how they LOOK) but I hate wearing them, too! What's the point when there are so many cute flat options?! :)

  50. Oh my gosh, you and I are so much alike- for real!

I am totally not a heels person. I rarely ever wear them. I'm so clumsy that it's just a recipe for disaster. I'm also NOT a Jim Carrey fan. I seriously thought I was the only person in the world that didn't like him. My husband says I'm insane but I told him there is a huge difference in "funny" and "just stupid". Oh and I have MAJOR allergy issues. I went for allergy testing last year and was supposed to have started shots but ended up pregnant and never went back. Mine are driving me crazy right now. I'm allergic to several kinds of trees which sucks because I live out in the country surrounded by trees.

Love that you read your Mom's journals. I use my Blog as a daily family journal. I plan on printing out each year and binding it for my children.
